การบินไทยประกาศขายเครื่องบิน 34 ลำซึ่งมีอายุเฉลี่ยเกินกว่า 20 ปี

หลังจากใช้เวลาช่วงบ่ายเช็คข่าวอยู่พักใหญ่ก็ปรากฏว่าสำนักข่าวใหญ่หลายแห่งรายงานตรงกันแล้วว่าการบินไทยประกาศขายเครื่องบินทั้งหมด 34 ลำ อายุเฉลี่ย 20 ปี โดยเป็นการขายตามสภาพและผู้ซื้อจะต้องเคลื่อนย้ายอากาศยานนั้นโดยค่าใช้จ่ายของตนเอง
นอกจาก Airbus A300-600 จำนวน 1 ลำและ Boeing 737-400 จำนวน 2 ลำแล้ว ที่น่าใจหายก็คือ Boeing 747-400 ซึ่งการบินไทยประกาศขายทั้งหมดรวดเดียว 10 ลำ ทำให้การบินไทยเป็นอีกหนึ่งสายการบินที่ยกเลิกการใช้งานเครื่องบินที่มีสมญานามว่าจัมโบ้เจ็ทรุ่นนี้ หลังจากที่หลายสายการบินอย่างเช่น Qantas, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Corsair และ KLM ทยอยปลดระวางไปในช่วงไม่กี่เดือนที่ผ่านมา
เรื่องอนาคตของ Boeing 747 นั้นไม่สู้ดีอยู่แล้วตั้งแต่ก่อนโควิดมา เนื่องจากความต้องการของอุตสาหกรรมการบินที่เปลี่ยนแปลงไป สายการบินต้องการใช้เครื่องที่มีขนาดเล็กลงและประหยัดน้ำมันได้มากขึ้น ยิ่งเมื่อเกิดสถานการณ์โรคระบาดที่ทำให้การเดินทางระหว่างประเทศต้องหยุดชะงัก สายการบินต่างๆ จึงเร่งแผนการปลดระวาง Boeing 747 โดยปริยาย หากไม่ขายให้กับสายการบินที่ต้องการเครื่องแบบคาร์โก้ก็ต้องนำไปแยกชิ้นส่วนขายเป็นเศษวัสดุ ซ้ำร้าย Boeing ยังออกมาประกาศชัดเจนแล้วด้วยว่าจะยุติสายการผลิตเครื่อง 747 ในปี 2022 ถือเป็นจุดอวสานของตำนานหน้าบทสำคัญในประวัติศาสตร์การบินนี้
ออกนอกเรื่องไปไกล กลับมาที่การบินไทยกันต่อ เครื่องบินรุ่นอื่นๆ ที่ประกาศขาย ได้แก่ Boeing 777-200 ทั้งหมด 6 ลำและ Boeing 777-300 ทั้งหมดอีก 6 ลำ นั่นหมายความว่าต่อไปนี้เราจะไม่ได้เห็นเครื่อง Boeing 777-300 ลำที่มีนามเรียกขาน HS-TKF ซึ่งเพิ่งจะได้รับการตกแต่งด้วยลายเรือพระที่นั่งสุพรรณหงส์เมื่อปีที่แล้วนี้เอง
สุดท้ายก็คือ Airbus A340-500 จำนวน 3 ลำและ Airbus A340-600 จำนวน 6 ลำซึ่งจอดนิ่งมายาวนาน เนื่องจากเครื่องระยะไกลเหล่านี้จัดซื้อมาเพื่อใช้ในเส้นทางสหรัฐอเมริกาอย่างลอสแองเจลิสและนิวยอร์ค แต่เมื่อถึงจุดที่ยกเลิกเส้นทางดังกล่าวก็ไม่อาจนำเครื่องเหล่านี้ไปใช้ในเส้นทางอื่นได้อย่างคุ้มค่า
หากวันหนึ่งสายการบินต่างๆ รวมถึงการบินไทยสามารถกลับไปดำเนินกิจการได้เกือบเหมือนปกติแล้ว การบินไทยก็ยังเหลือเครื่องบินให้ใช้อีกมากมาย ไม่ว่าจะเป็น Boeing 787-8 จำนวน 6 ลำ Boeing 787-9 จำนวน 2 ลำ Boeing 777-200ER จำนวน 6 ลำ Boeing 777-300ER จำนวน 14 ลำ Airbus A350-900 จำนวน 12 ลำ Airbus A380-800 จำนวน 6 ลำ และ Airbus A330-300 กับ A320-200 อีกจำนวนหนึ่ง (ซึ่ง A320-200 นั้นใช้โดย Thai Smile เท่านั้น) แต่ก็อย่างที่ทราบกันว่าการบินไทยไม่ได้เป็นเจ้าของเครื่องบินทุกลำ เนื่องจากบางลำก็เช่าหรือเช่าซื้อมา

We were informed by a source familiar with the matter, which was subsequently confirmed by major news sources that Thai Airways has listed 34 aircrafts for sale. Their average age is 20 years and they are all offered in as is where is basis. Apart from the few Airbus A300-600 (one unit) and Boeing 737-400 (two units), Thai Airways is selling ALL of their 10 Boeing 747-400 aircrafts, making them the next airline to retire the Queen of the Skies after Qantas, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Corsair and KLM have done so over the past few months.
The fate was sealed for Boeing 747 in terms of passenger service even before Covid-19. This was because the need of the industry has changed in favour of smaller and more fuel-efficient aircrafts. The pandemic only hastened the retirement and sent the last remaining “jumbo jets” to freight service or to scrap. Boeing themselves has revealed that they will end 747 production altogether in 2022, bringing a close to this very important chapter of aviation history.
Anyway, back to Thai Airways, what else do we have. The six Boeing 777-200 and six Boeing 777-300 are listed for sale as well, so that means we will no longer see the Boeing 777-300 callsign HS-TKF which received the Suphannahong Royal Barge livery only last year.
Also listed for sale after having been grounded for some time are three Airbus A340-500 and six Airbus A340-600. These long-range aircrafts served US destinations like Los Angeles and New York until the routes were dropped.
Once airlines of the world return to the sky in some capacity, Thai Airways will rely on other remaining aircrafts of the fleet which include six Boeing 787-8, two Boeing 787-9, six Boeing 777-200ER, 14 Boeing 777-300ER, 12 Airbus A350-900 and six Airbus A380-800, as well as numerous Airbus A330-300 and A320-200 (the latter exclusively used by Thai Smile). Information is not readily available as to the ownership status of these aircrafts but naturally many of them are on lease or lease purchase.
