In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Nissan GT-R’s enduring partnership with coachmakers Italdesign, the Japanese carmaker tapped on the European company for a prototype redesign dubbed the GTR-50. Even though this version has been engineered and developed by Italdesign, the exterior and interior are designed by and Nissan Design America and Nissan Design Europe in London, based on the initial sketches of the 2018 GT-R Nismo model.
Nissan and Italdesign is Celebrating their 50th Anniversary with a Special Prototype
The result is a bespoke GT-R that incorporates many special elements that pay homage to the earlier models. Thin LED headlights now stretch across the wheel arches, the hood has been treated with a sleek reshape, while the front fascia now boasts a golden inner element that covers almost the full width of the car. This supercar is then finished in “Liquid Kinetic” Gray contrasted with “Energetic Sigma” Gold accents, and to top off the full luxurious look, the wheels are replaced with unique 21-inch wheels wearing Michelin Pilot Super Sports tires.

“This is a rare window in time when two big moments intersect: 50 years of Italdesign shaping the automotive world and 50 years of Nissan generating excitement through our iconic GT-R,” said Alfonso Albaisa, Nissan’s senior vice president for global design.
Under the trunk is a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 engine with Nismo upgrades; larger turbos, intercoolers, and crankshaft pistons alongside connecting rods and bearings. With custom 21-inch carbon-fibre wheels assisting for smooth driving, the car is projected to reach a breakneck speed of 710 horsepower at 7100 rpm.
As beautiful and luxurious as the exterior, the upholstery inside the car is finished with smooth black leather for safety, comfort, and class. The car is expected to make its European debut next month.
