Wallaya Heritage Stay เรือนไม้สักโบราณในซอยเทเวศร์ 2 ย่านเก่าแก่ริมแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยาที่ถูกบูรณะและปรับปรุงใหม่จนงดงาม พร้อมต้อนรับผู้มาเยือนที่อยากสัมผัสมนต์เสน่ห์แห่งกาลเวลาและความงามของสถาปัตยกรรมไทยโบราณ ท่ามกลางบรรยากาศที่อบอุ่นและกลมกลืนกับสังคมสมัยใหม่ และถึงแม้ในย่านนี้จะมีชุมชนโบราณและอาคารเก่าแก่หลายแห่ง แต่สิ่งที่ทำให้ Wallaya Heritage Stay แตกต่างและมีเอกลักษณ์ไม่เหมือนใคร เห็นจะเป็นทำเลที่ตั้งท่ามกลางอาคารพักอาศัยสมัยใหม่แบบที่ว่าหากมองผ่านๆ โดยไม่ทันสังเกต ก็อาจไม่ทราบเลยว่ามีเรือนโบราณตั้งอยู่ และอีกอย่างคงหนีไม่พ้นความสวยงามของบ้านที่ดูเหมือนมีมนตร์ขลังและมีเอกลักษณ์เฉพาะตัวอย่างแท้จริง
เรือนไม้สักหลังนี้สร้างมาตั้งแต่ปี พ.ศ. 2464 นับอายุถึงปีนี้ก็ 103 ปีแล้ว แต่เดิมเป็นบ้านของพระยาสุรินทรเสวี (เถา วัลยะเสวี) มหาดเล็กห้องบรรทมในรัชกาลที่ 6 ผู้เป็นต้นสกุลวัลยะเสวี ต่อมาได้กลายเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของโรงเรียนกัลยาที่มีคุณบุบผา วัลยะเสวี บุตรสาวคนที่สองของพระยาสุรินทรเสวีเป็นผู้อำนวยการ แต่หลังจากโรงเรียนปิดตัวลง พื้นที่โรงเรียนและพื้นที่โดยรอบถูกพัฒนาเป็นอพาร์ตเมนต์ มีเพียงเรือนโบราณหลังนี้ที่ยังหลงเหลืออยู่
จากความตั้งใจแรกของคุณเจี๊ยบและคุณเต้อ เจ้าของบ้านคนปัจจุบันที่อยากบูรณะเรือนหลังนี้แล้วเปิดเป็นพิพิธภัณฑ์ แต่ด้วยปัจจัยหลายๆ อย่าง ทำให้สุดท้ายแล้วเรือนไม้สักจากสมัยรัชกาลที่ 6 หลังนี้ได้กลายมาเป็น Wallaya Heritage Stay โรงแรมขนาดกะทัดรัดอบอุ่น 4 ห้องพักในที่สุด โดยคุณเจี๊ยบและคุณเต้อพยายามรักษาโครงสร้างดั้งเดิมของบ้านไว้ให้มากที่สุด มีการดีดบ้านเพื่อเปลี่ยนตำแหน่งและปรับให้เป็นเรือนใต้ถุนสูง ต่อเติมบริเวณห้องน้ำของแต่ละห้องพัก เปลี่ยนวัสดุที่ชำรุดเสียหาย และทาสีใหม่ด้วยโทนสีไข่ไก่ สีขาว สีเขียว สีน้ำตาล ให้อารมณ์บ้านโบราณที่ดูอบอุ่น น่าพักอาศัย และกลมกลืนกับสีอาคารโดยรอบ
พื้นที่ใต้ถุนเรือนได้รับการปรับปรุงให้เป็นพื้นที่รับแขกที่ครบครัน มีทั้งเคาน์เตอร์ต้อนรับ โต๊ะอาหารขนาดใหญ่ ม้านั่งรูปไข่ โต๊ะนั่งจิบกาแฟ และห้องน้ำแยกชาย-หญิง เมื่อเดินขึ้นบันไดไปยังชั้น 1 ของ Wallaya Heritage Stay เราจะพบกับระเบียงบ้านที่สามารถนั่งรับลมและผ่อนคลายได้ อีกทั้งยังมีพื้นที่ส่วนกลางที่ประกอบด้วยห้องรับแขกและห้องรับประทานอาหาร รวมถึงห้องพักขนาดใหญ่ที่สุดอย่างห้องตำลึง 01 ที่พิเศษตรงที่มีห้องรับประทานอาหารส่วนตัว ห้องน้ำที่เชื่อมต่อกับวอล์คอินคลอเซ็ท และระเบียงเล็กๆ ให้ความรู้สึกเป็นส่วนตัวและความสะดวกสบายอย่างสูงสุด
เมื่อถามถึงที่มาของชื่อห้อง ก็ถือว่าล้ำลึกและน่าสนใจไม่น้อย เพราะมาจากมาตราเงินพดด้วงที่เรียกว่า “ตำลึง” ซึ่งใช้กันมาจนถึงสมัยรัตนโกสินทร์ตอนต้น โดยชื่อห้องจะไล่เรียงตามค่าเงินจากมากไปน้อยหรือจากขนาดห้องใหญ่สุดไปเล็กสุด ได้แก่ ตำลึง 01 (Family room), ตำลึง 02 (Executive room), ตำลึง 03 (Deluxe room) และตำลึง 04 (Superior room) แต่เอ๊ะ แล้วทำไมเราถึงบอกว่าห้องใหญ่สุดตรงชั้น 1 คือ ห้องตำลึง 01 แทนที่จะเป็นห้องตำลึง 04 นั่นเพราะมีเหตุขัดข้องทางเทคนิคเล็กน้อยในการแปะป้ายห้อง ฉะนั้นหากคุณเข้าพักแล้วชื่อห้องไม่ตรงตามนี้ ก็ไม่ต้องแปลกใจไป
จากชั้น 1 เดินขึ้นไปยังชั้น 2 จะพบกับโถงรับแขก และห้องพักอีก 3 ห้องที่เหลือ ได้แก่ห้องตำลึง 02, ห้องตำลึง 03 และห้องตำลึง 04 โดย ห้องตำลึง 02 มีลูกเล่นตรงห้องรับแขกแบบต่างระดับที่น่านั่งเป็นอย่างมาก ซึ่งเราว่าดีไซน์ห้องแบบนี้ไม่น่าจะเห็นกันได้บ่อย ๆ และที่สำคัญ ห้องตำลึง 02 และห้องตำลึง 03 สามารถเปิดประตูแปลงร่างเป็นห้องเชื่อมต่อกันได้ หากเข้าพักกันหลายคน ก็ถือว่าเหมาะเลยทีเดียว ส่วนห้องตำลึง 4 แม้จะเป็นห้องที่เล็กที่สุด แต่ก็ไม่ได้ทำให้รู้สึกอึดอัด เรียกว่าขนาดกะทัดรัด พักผ่อนได้สบาย แถมยังมีห้องน้ำส่วนตัวด้วยเช่นกัน
พูดถึงเรื่องการตกแต่งภายในของที่นี่ แน่นอนว่าต้องเป็นสไตล์วินเทจ เฟอร์นิเจอร์เน้นงานไม้และหวาย ข้าวของเครื่องใช้และของตกแต่งมีทั้งของเก่าที่เจ้าของบ้านสะสมไว้ และของใหม่ที่คัดสรรมาอย่างพิถีพิถัน อาทิ กระโถนสังกะสีลายดอกไม้ที่นำมาใช้เป็นถังขยะ เครื่องเล่นแผ่นเสียงแบบไขลาน นาฬิกาลูกตุ้ม ชุดโซฟาผ้าซาตินลายดอกไม้ ลำโพงบลูทูธทรงวินเทจ ทีวีจอแบนแขวนผนัง ทั้งหมดดูกลมกลืนกับสไตล์ของบ้านและของวินเทจดั้งเดิมเพียงชิ้นเดียวที่เหลืออยู่อย่างตู้เซฟเหล็กที่ตั้งอยู่ในโถงรับแขกชั้น 2 แถมยังให้อารมณ์เหมือนบ้านที่อยู่อาศัยกันมาหลายยุคหลายสมัยซึ่งย่อมต้องมีข้าวของเครื่องใช้ ของประดับตกแต่งหลากหลายตามกาลเวลา
ภายในห้องพักทุกห้องจะมีกาแฟ ขนมขบเคี้ยว และเครื่องดื่มไว้ให้บริการฟรี ทั้งยังมีอาหารเช้าให้บริการตั้งแต่เวลา 7:00 – 10:00 น. ที่ห้องรับประทานอาหารบริเวณชั้น 1 โดยมีเมนูให้เลือกทั้ง American Breakfast และอาหารไทย เช่น ข้าวต้ม ผัดไทย รวมถึงชา กาแฟ ขนมปังปิ้ง ผลไม้สด และขนมไทยปิดท้ายมื้อ ทั้งนี้ เมนูที่เสิร์ฟอาจเปลี่ยนแปลงไปตามสถานการณ์และฤดูกาล

Housed in a beautifully renovated teak house in Soi Thewet 2, an old neighborhood by the Chaophraya River, Wallaya Heritage Stay offers a warm welcome to visitors seeking a taste of old Bangkok. Here, they’ll find beautiful Thai architecture in a setting infused with warmth and in harmony with the modern world. In an area with many old communities and ancient buildings, the place stands apart for its location, surrounded by so many modern residential buildings that a passerby taking a casual glance around may miss it, and for the uniquely and enchantingly beautiful teak structure that houses it.
Built in 1921 as the home of Phraya Surindrasevi (Thao Valyasevi), a page of King Rama VI’s bedchamber and the patriarch of the Valyasevi family, the teak house later became part of Wallaya School headed by Phraya Surindrasevi’s second daughter. After the school closed down, the former school grounds along with surrounding spaces were developed into apartments. Only this historic home has retained its original form.
The current owners, Khun Jeab and Khun Ter, initially intended to renovate the building and turn it into a museum. Due to various factors, however, this teak house from the time of King Rama VI ended up as Wallaya Heritage Stay, a compact hotel with just 4 guestrooms. The owners did their best to maintain the house’s original structure. The changes they made included raising the house, repositioning it and turning it into a two-story building with an open ground-floor living area; adding a bathroom to every guestroom; replacing damaged materials and repainting the entire structure in a palette of eggshell, white, green and brown, giving it the ambience of a cozy and welcoming old home blending harmoniously with surrounding buildings.
The ground floor is now a reception area complete with a reception counter, a dining table, oval seating, a coffee table and separate bathrooms for men and women. Ascending the stairs to the first floor, one finds a balcony ideal for sitting back and enjoying the breeze. There is also a common area comprising a drawing room and dining room. The largest guestroom is located on this floor, a suite with its own private dining room, a bathroom with walk-in closet and a small balcony. Complete privacy and comfort is guaranteed throughout your stay in this room.
Guestrooms are named after the old currency unit “Tam Lueng,” which remained in use up to the early Rattanakosin era. Tam Lueng 01 (Family Room) is the most spacious of the four. Tam Lueng 02 is an Executive Room, Tam Lueng 03 is a Deluxe Room and Tam Lueng 04 is a Superior Room. The sign on the door to the largest suite, however, says Tam Lueng 04 due to an error during room sign installation.
The second floor contains a reception hall and three guestrooms. Tam Lueng 02 features a very inviting, split-level living room, a design quite unusual in our opinion. The room can be connected to the adjoining Tam Lueng 03, providing a good option for group stays. Tam Lueng 04, although the smallest of the quartet, is anything but cramped. Compact yet comfortable, it too comes with an ensuite bathroom.
The interior décor is vintage in style, with lots of wood and rattan. Furnishings and accent pieces are a mix of vintage pieces from the owners’ collection and carefully curated new acquisitions – floral-patterned tin spittoons used as waste baskets, a wind-up gramophone, pendulum clocks, a suite of sofa upholstered in floral satin, a vintage-style Bluetooth speaker and flat screen TVs on the walls. Taken together, the new décor blends in seamlessly with both the architecture and the sole vintage piece that came with the house: A steel safe standing in the first-floor reception hall. The place has the feel of an old home that many generations have lived in, each leaving behind everyday articles and decorating pieces from its era.
Every guestroom comes with complimentary coffee, snacks and beverages. Breakfast is served from 7.00 – 10.00 am in the ground floor dining room. Guests have the options of American or Thai-style breakfast, the latter including rice soup or Pad Thai, tea or coffee, toast, fresh fruit, and Thai desserts to round it all out. The menu may vary depending on the season and other circumstances.
Wallaya Heritage Stay is an ideal choice for guests planning to visit temples, the Grand Palace, museums and local restaurants and cafés in the Phra Nakhon area. Travel to Siam, Silom and other downtown locations is also quite easy. Each guestroom can accommodate up to two people. Privacy-minded guests and groups may want to book the whole house.
