การกลับไปเยือน Sri Panwa ที่ยังคงความประทับใจไม่ว่าเวลาจะผ่านไปกี่ปี

Sri Panwa ไม่ใช่โรงแรมแห่งแรกของแหลมพันวาทางด้านตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ของเกาะภูเก็ต แต่รีสอร์ทแห่งนี้ก็สร้างชื่อให้กับตัวเองได้อย่างรวดเร็วจนกลายเป็นสถานที่ที่ผู้คนจดจำภาพได้มากที่สุดแห่งหนึ่งในภูเก็ตหรือในประเทศไทยเลยก็ว่าได้ ภาพที่เห็นกันอยู่บ่อยครั้งก็คือโซน Baba Poolclub ที่คนนิยมไปถ่ายรูปลง Instagram กันเวลานั่งอยู่ในโต๊ะที่แหวกลงไปในน้ำสระและเห็นวิวทะเลอันดามันอยู่ข้างหลัง หรือจะเป็นภาพพูลวิลล่าที่กระจายตัวลดหลั่นเป็นขั้นบันไดอยู่บนปลายแหลมฝั่งตะวันออกก็ตาม
ผมมีโอกาสได้กลับไปเยือนรีสอร์ทแห่งนี้อีกครั้งหลังจากที่ไม่ได้ไปมาราวเจ็ดปี Sri Panwa ยังคงความอบอุ่นและเป็นมิตรแบบคูลๆ เหมือนเดิม รีสอร์ทที่บริหารงานแบบครอบครัวแห่งนี้มีสถาปัตยกรรมแบบร่วมสมัยที่เน้นการใช้โทนสีส้มเป็นหลัก เมื่อตอนที่มาเยือนครั้งก่อนนั้นที่นี่เปิดตัว Baba Nest ซึ่งเป็นรูฟท็อปบาร์และลานชมวิวมุมสูงแบบ 360 องศาแล้ว
ของใหม่สำหรับผมในการไปเยือน Sri Panwa ครั้งนี้ก็คือโซนเปิดใหม่ที่มีชื่อว่า The Habita เอกลักษณ์สำคัญของโซนทางฝั่งตะวันตกของแหลมนี้ก็คือหลังคาของล็อบบี้และ Shishi Lounge ที่ออกแบบเป็นรูปใบไม้ขนาดยักษ์ มองลงไปจะเห็นสระว่ายน้ำแบบวอเตอร์ฟอลแบบกว้างใหญ่อยู่ข้างล่าง The Habita มีพูลสวีท 20 ห้องและเพนท์เฮ้าส์ 10 ห้อง เพนท์เฮ้าส์ที่นี่ใหญ่โตเหลือเฟือสำหรับครอบครัวเล็กๆ ที่มีเด็ก หรือหากคุณเคยมาพักทางฝั่งตะวันออกแล้วอยากเปลี่ยนบรรยากาศมาทางตะวันตกบ้างก็ลองเลือกดูได้
พื้นที่ 140 ตารางเมตรของเพนท์เฮ้าส์ที่ The Habita แบ่งเป็นห้องนั่งเล่น 44 ตารางเมตร ห้องนอน 26 ตารางเมตร ห้องน้ำ 20 ตารางเมตร ระเบียง 25 ตารางเมตรและสระว่ายน้ำขนาดเท่ากัน ทั้งหมดแบ่งสัดส่วนการใช้งานได้อย่างลงตัว ไม่ขัดเขินแต่อย่างใด ในห้องมี iPod ที่มีเพลย์ลิสท์หลากหลายให้ตรงกับอารมณ์ของคุณ หากอยากเลือกเหมือนที่รีสอร์ทเปิดตามห้องอาหารต่างๆ ของตนเองก็มีเหมือนกัน
พูดถึงห้องอาหารแล้วก็ต้องสารภาพว่าเรื่องการกินเป็นเรื่องสนุกเรื่องหนึ่งของการมาพักที่นี่ ด้วยเมนูแบบสบายๆ ไม่ต้องเป็นพิธีรีตองมากนักตามห้องอาหารต่างๆ ที่กระจายตัวอยู่ทั่วรีสอร์ทให้คุณได้ลองแบบไม่ซ้ำมื้อ
ในโซน The Habita เองนี้ก็มี Baba Hot Box เป็นห้องเล็กๆ ที่นำเสนออาหารแนวบาร์บีคิวและกริลต่างๆ เวลาเสิร์ฟมาพร้อมกับซอสแนวตะวันตกและตะวันออกหลากหลายชนิดน่าสนใจ และมี Baba Chino เหนือสระว่ายน้ำที่เสิร์ฟอาหารจีนและติ่มซำต่างๆ แต่ตัวผมเองบอกเลยว่าถูกใจห้อง Baba Soul Food ที่มีมาแต่เดิมแล้วมากกว่าเพราะไปติดใจอาหารไทยอันหลากหลายของเขาที่ไม่ได้จำกัดอยู่เฉพาะอาหารใต้เท่านั้น และก็ชอบ Baba Iki ซึ่งเป็นห้องอาหารญี่ปุ่นที่มีปลาดิบดีๆ ให้ทุกคนได้ทานจนหายอยากอยู่เสมอ
อีกหนึ่งห้องที่ต้องพูดถึงก็คือ Baba Q ซึ่งนอกจากจะเป็นห้องที่ใช้สำหรับบริการอาหารเช้าแล้วยังมีเมนูอาหารนานาชาติตลอดทั้งวันด้วย คนไม่กินเผ็ดห้ามสั่งเมนูที่ชื่อ Pasta from Hell เพราะว่าเขาปรุงแบบเผ็ดจริงอะไรจริง และไม่ว่าจะไปทานที่ห้องใดก็แนะนำว่าควรโทรลงไปจองไว้ก่อนแต่เนิ่นๆ เพราะนอกจากแขกในรีสอร์ทแล้วก็ยังมีลูกค้าภายนอกเข้ามาทานด้วยเช่นกัน
น่าเสียดายว่าผมมาพักที่นี่หลายครั้งแต่ไม่เคยมีเวลาให้กับ Cool Spa ของเขาเลย สปาของที่นี่ตั้งอยู่แยกจากทุกสิ่ง เมื่อเปิดประตูเข้าไปแล้วจะพบกับบันไดที่พาคุณเดินผ่านสระน้ำลงไปยังห้องทรีทเมนท์ต่างๆ ที่ดูเหมือนซ่อนตัวอยู่ตามหมู่แมกไม้ ครั้งนี้ผมก็แวะไปดูแบบผ่านๆ อีกครั้งเพื่อดูว่าเก่าหรือโทรมไปตามเวลาหรือไม่ แต่ปรากฏว่ายังดูดีเหมือนเดิมทุกประการ แต่ด้วยเวลาที่จำกัดอย่างที่บอกจึงขอติดไว้ก่อนเอาไว้ลองใช้บริการในโอกาสหน้าซึ่งเชื่อว่ามีแน่ เพราะแม้ปกติแล้วผมจะเป็นคนที่ชอบลองพักที่ใหม่ๆ เพื่อเป็นประสบการณ์ แต่บางครั้งก็จะมีบางที่ที่เราอยากไปอยู่ซ้ำอีกเพราะความสะดวกบ้างหรือเพราะมั่นใจว่าจะไม่ผิดหวัง อย่างเช่นที่ Sri Panwa นี้เป็นต้น
Phuket’s Sri Panwa makes a good impression despite repeated visits.

Sri Panwa was not the first property on Cape Panwa in southeastern Phuket, but a combination of elements contributed to its quick rise to fame. It became one of the most recognisable resorts in Phuket, if not in the whole of Thailand, in almost no time. This was due, in part, to their Baba Poolclub facility, which boasts Instagrammable spots like the sunken pool tables that overlook the Andaman Sea below. Guests enjoy the same fantastic view when staying at one of the east-facing pool villas that grace the very tip of the cape.
Years ago, I visited this family owned and operated resort a few times. As fate would have it, I had a chance to stay there again for the first time in maybe seven years.
Sri Panwa’s cool and friendly vibe remains, permeating the tropical and contemporary architecture in a predominantly orange tone. The rooftop bar and 360-degree viewing platform Baba Nest were already there during my previous visits. Therefore, the major expansion I needed to check out was The Habita – a west-facing wing of the property. Its lobby and Shishi Lounge are covered by a gigantic leaf-shaped roof that opens out to massive waterfall pools below. The Habita features 20 pool suites and 10 penthouses. The latter is super spacious and perfect for a family with children or those who have already stayed in an east-side villa or suite.
Measuring 140 square metres, the penthouse at The Habita offers a 44-square-metre living room, a 26-square-metre bedroom, a 20-square-metre bathroom and a 25 square-metre balcony, plus a swimming pool of the same size. This refined living space is sensibly compartmentalised for a comfortable stay. To fill the vast space, you have an iPod loaded with a variety of playlists to match your mood. The same tunes also play at various outlets in the resort.
Speaking of outlets, food contributes to a major experience at Sri Panwa, and it is more fun and less formal than many resorts in Phuket. There are so many dining venues, you can try a different one for each lunch and dinner during your stay.
Within the immediate area of The Habita, the small and cosy Baba Hot Box presents barbecue and grill selections that come with many kinds of interesting western and eastern sauces. Also, Baba Chino, which overlooks the pool, serves traditional Chinese dishes and dim sum. However, I find myself gravitating more towards their Thai restaurant Baba Soul Food, whose menu is not limited to southern Thai dishes; and their Japanese outlet Baba Iki, to satisfy all cravings for good sushi and sashimi.
One other outlet to mention is Baba Q, which, in addition to breakfast, provides an all-day international dining menu. One word of caution: do avoid that item listed as “Pasta from Hell” unless you are certain that you can handle a load of Thai chilli paste. Regardless of your choice on where to eat, it is recommended that you make a reservation in advance, as these restaurants must also serve outside customers in addition to resort guests.
Lastly (and unfortunately), there is no spa story to share. Cool Spa is the only element I never found time for at Sri Panwa. It looks intriguing, like a hidden rainforest sanctuary that descends down the face of a hill. I briefly inspected the place on this latest visit – everything appears to be well kept with no signs of aging whatsoever. Maybe next time. Despite my eagerness to try a new hotel or resort in the same destination, sometimes there are spots you would not mind repeating because you know you will not be disappointed – Sri Panwa is one such place for me.
