Before Sunset หรือในชื่อไทยชื่อ ตะวันไม่สิ้นแสง แรงรักไม่จาง ที่ออกฉายในปี ค.ศ. 2004 เป็นภาพยนตร์เรื่องที่สองของภาพยนตร์รักไตรภาค “Before” นำแสดงโดยอีธาน ฮอว์ก และฌูว์ลี แดลปี ว่าด้วยเรื่องราวการพบกันอีกครั้งที่กรุงปารีส ประเทศฝรั่งเศส ของเจสซี หนุ่มนักเขียนชาวอเมริกัน และเซลีน สาวฝรั่งเศส หลังจากที่เคยพบกันครั้งแรกและใช้เวลายามค่ำคืนร่วมกันที่กรุงเวียนนาใน Before Sunrise ภาพยนตร์ปฐมบทของไตรภาคซึ่งออกฉายในปี ค.ศ. 1995 ใน Before Sunset เจสซีและเซลีนได้มีโอกาสกลับมาพูดคุย อัพเดตชีวิตในช่วง 9 ปีที่พวกเขาไม่ได้เจอกัน ก่อนต้องแยกจากกันอีกครั้งก่อนอาทิตย์ตก และได้พบกันเป็นครั้งที่ 3 ใน Before Midnight ภาพยนตร์ปัจฉิมบทของตระกูล Before ที่ออกฉายในปี ค.ศ. 2013

โลเคชั่นที่เป็นอพาร์ตเมนต์ของเซลีนในเรื่องก็คืออพาร์ตเมนต์ชื่อ “กูร์เดอเลตวลดอร์” ลักษณะเป็นคอร์ทยาร์ดอพาร์ตเมนต์ที่บริเวณทางเข้ามีต้นไม้สีเขียวขจี มีลานส่วนกลางที่โอบล้อมด้วยตัวอาคารที่พัก ซึ่งผู้พักอาศัยสามารถมาทำกิจกรรมหรือสังสรรค์ที่ลานส่วนกลางนี้ได้ อย่างในเรื่อง ก็จะเห็นว่าเพื่อนร่วมอพาร์ตเมนต์ของเซลีนกำลังปาร์ตี้บาร์บีคิวและดินเนอร์ร่วมกัน ให้ความรู้สึกอบอุ่นน่าอยู่อาศัยอย่างมาก

The movie “Before Sunset” was released in 2004. It is the second installment in the “Before” love trilogy, starring Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy. It tells the story of a reunion in Paris between Celine, a French woman and Jesse, an American writer, after they first met and spent a night together in Vienna in “Before Sunrise” (1995), the first film of the trilogy. In “Before Sunset”, Jesse and Celine have an opportunity to update their lives during the 9 years apart before having to separate again before the sun sets. They then reunite for the third time in “Before Midnight”, the final film of the “Before” trilogy which was released in 2019.
The simple yet emotional conversations between the couple, along with warm vibes from the views of Paris, capture the hearts of the audience and made Before Sunset, as well as the other installments in this trilogy, a classic romantic film. Moreover, each location shown in this film has become a must visit spot among the movie fans when visiting Paris. 1. Shakespeare and Company Bookstore
“Before Sunset” begins its story inside the “Shakespeare and Company Bookstore” on the Rue de la Boucherie, on the banks of the Seine River, across from Notre Dame Cathedral in central Paris. The scene is a promotional event for Jesse’s new novel, inspired by his night with Celine in Vienna 9 years ago. It is here that he meets Celine again and resumes their conversation from last time.
Shakespeare and Company is the most famous English-language bookshop in Paris. It was first opened in 1951 by an American man named George Whitman. The building was built in an early 17th-century style, originally named Le Mistral, before George converted it to Shakespeare and Company in 1964 in honor of Sylvia Beach, his favorite writer and founder of the original Shakespeare and Company on the Rue de Lourdes. George’s Shakespeare and Company has become a gathering place for English-language readers and writers, and offers free accommodation to writers, artists and intellectuals who come to visit Paris. Tens of thousands of guests have stayed there, including Ethan Hawke, the film’s protagonist, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Julie Delpy, the film’s leading female actress.
2. Classic Cobblestone Streets
Jesse and Celine decide to continue their conversations at a cafe that is quite a walk from the bookstore. As a local, Celine leads Jesse through several cobblestone streets made during the Roman era that filled with shops, beautiful cafes, greenery gardens, and ancient buildings. All of which look classic and magical reflecting the fact that Paris has a long and fascinating history. Their route starts on Rue Saint Julien le Pauvre, home to the oldest Catholic cathedral in Paris is also worth a visit. They then walk through a narrow pedestrian street called Rue Galande, the 14th-century bas-relief of Saint Julien on the facade of building number 42 (the Studio Galande cinema), which is said to be the oldest sign in Paris.
From Rue Galande, the couple cross the Seine River, walk through Rue de l’Ave Maria, and end up at Rue Des Jardins Saint-Paul in the Marais, a chic neighborhood known as the Soho of Paris, where the church of Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis could clearly be seen. They then turn right, walk through Rue Charlemagne into Rue Eginhard and Rue Saint-Paul, and after a while they reach their destination, Le Pure Café, on Rue Jean-Macé.
3. Le Pure Café
After reaching Le Pure Café on the corner of Rue Jean-Macé, Jesse and Celine continue their conversation inside the café and they discover that they had both been living in New York at the same time. It’s hard to consider whether it was a fate or a bad luck that the two never met during their time there.
Let’s talk about Le Pure Café. From the outside, you will see a café with red walls contrasting with a blue sign and large glass doors and windows with dark wooden frames. When entering the shop, you will find a different atmosphere from the outside. The interior is decorated with wooden furniture, tables, chairs, and an island-style bar in the middle. The columns and ceiling are in the Gothic style that was popular in the early 20th century. Le Pure Café is open from early morning until late at night. The food served includes both standard French and international dishes, as well as a variety of drinks such as coffee and cocktails. If you want to sit and relax while absorbing in the beautiful view of Paris, you can choose to sit at one of the outdoor tables.
4. Coulée Verte René-Dumont
After having a cup of coffee and chatting at Le Pure Café for a while, Jesse still has some time left, so they decide to continue strolling around Paris. Celine takes Jesse south to the Coulée Verte René-Dumont, also known as the Promenade Plantée. It is a sky garden about 10 meters above the ground and is 4.7 kilometers long, starting from behind the Bastille Opera House and ending at the Porte-Dorée. The garden was originally an old railway track for freight trains that connected to the Bastille station. The station was converted to the Bastille Cathedral while the track was transformed into a public park for people to sit, walk, jog, and commute.
Throughout the park, you will find modern residential buildings, colorful graffiti created by street artists, fairy-tale-like archways to walk through, and gardens of various styles, such as an English garden, and a Japanese garden with cherry trees and bamboo arches. Some parts feature bridges, allowing you to fully enjoy views from both lower and higher angles. The beautiful Coulée Verte René-Dumont sky garden is equipped with elevators, making it a convenient place for the whole family.
5. Quai de la Tournelle
Celine convinces Jesse to walk from the sky garden back to the bookstore because she is concerned that he would miss his flight. The two walk along the Seine River until they reach “Quai de la Tournelle”, Jesse suddenly asks Celine to take a boat to “Quai Henri IV” and arranges for the driver to pick him up there to go to the airport. Although the distance between the two ports is not far, the view along the way is stunning, especially the Notre-Dame Cathedral, an important symbol of Paris and one of the world’s most valuable architectures. Notre-Dame Cathedral is going to reopen to the public in December 2024 after being closed for renovations due to a major fire in April 2019. 6. Cour de l’Étoile d’Or
Jesse and Celine’s reunion is supposed to end at the Port Henri IV at sunset, where Jesse arranges to have a driver to pick him up for the airport. However, before heading to the airport, Jesse offers to drop Celine off at her apartment on Rue de Fabourg Saint-Antoine, the last location we see in the film.
Celine’s apartment is in a place called “Cour de l’Etoile d’Or”, which is in a courtyard apartment with green trees at the entrance. There is a central yard surrounded by the apartment buildings, where residents can do activities or socialize in this common area. In the movie, we can see Celine’s apartment mates having a barbecue and dinner together, giving a very warm and inviting feeling.
