Aitoy ชวนคุณมาร่วมสำรวจความแตกต่าง ความเชื่อและความจำเป็นในการมีอยู่ขององค์กรแห่งศรัทธา

Joyman Gallery ขอเชิญชมนิทรรศการแสดงเดี่ยว The Fictional Truth – ขยะอวกาศ โดยศิลปิน Aitoy หรือ วสันต์ สุวรรณนาคะ (Vasan Suwannaka) จัดแสดงผลงานจิตรกรรม ประติมากรรม ภาพพิมพ์ สื่อผสม และวิดีโออินเตอร์แอคทีฟอาร์ต รวมกว่า 30 ชิ้น อันเป็นงานศิลปะชุดมหากาพย์ที่เป็นดังภาษาเพื่อสื่อสาร ตั้งคำถาม ถกเถียง สำรวจความแตกต่าง ความเชื่อและความจำเป็นในการมีอยู่ขององค์กรแห่งศรัทธา ศิลปินเปรียบเปรยถึงการติดกับดักลุ่มหลงความจริงของเรื่องแต่งกับซากวัตถุที่ถูกทิ้งในอวกาศโดยมนุษย์หลังการสำรวจความจริงของจักรวาล ซึ่งการสร้างความเชื่อและการสร้างวัตถุนั้นล้วนถูกสร้างขึ้นโดยมนุษย์เองเพื่อยกระดับปัญญาของมนุษยชาติให้เหนือสัญชาตญานและความเข้าใจที่เคยเป็น ครั้นเศษซากแห่งนวัตกรรมที่ใช้ในการไขความลับจักรวาล เมื่อหมดหน้าที่ ก็กลายเป็นเศษลอยเคว้งอยู่นอกโลก
“ทั้งชีวิตของผม การวาดรูปเป็นวิธีการสื่อสาร ใช้ทั้งในการสร้างเพื่อน ใช้จีบสาวจนกลายเป็นวิธีใช้หาเงินแต่มากไปกว่าการเป็นศาสตร์และศิลป์ที่ผมใช้หล่อเลี้ยงชีวิต การวาดรูปคือเครื่องมือที่ผมใช้ค้นหาหนทางแห่งความเชื่อ ผมเกิดมาในครอบครัวพุทธ เรียนหนังสือในโรงเรียนคริสต์ ที่อยู่ในพื้นที่ชุมชนอิสลาม ผมโตมาท่ามกลางระบบความเชื่อที่แตกต่างกันอย่างสิ้นเชิง สิ่งเดียวที่เหมือนกันคือทุกระบบความเชื่อล้วนถูกสร้างขึ้นมาโดยมนุษย์ – แต่ละระบบมีความจริงที่สมมติขึ้นซึ่งโดยวัฒนธรรมที่แตกต่างกัน จากช่วงเวลาที่ต่างกัน ในห้วงประวัติศาสตร์อันเป็นนิรันดร์ อะไรคือความจริงที่ถูกต้อง เมื่อทุกความจริงคือสิ่งที่มนุษย์ประดิษฐ์ขึ้น”
สไตล์ของ Aitoy ถูกหล่อหล่อมขึ้นมาระยะเวลาหนึ่ง ด้วยแรงบันดาลใจในงานของ แฟรงค์ มิลเล่อร์ เทคนิคการใช้หมึกที่เป็นรากฐานการวาดภาพการ์ตูน วิธีการสร้างมิติด้วยการเทียบเคียงของแสงและเงา รูปทรง ความเปรียบต่างของสี การเปิดรับแสง องค์ประกอบในสไตล์งานของ แฟรงค์ มิลเล่อร์ กลายเป็นตัวอักษรประกอบภาษาที่เขาอยากพูดมาทั้งชีวิต เป็นภาษาของเขาเองที่สามารถแสดงถึงความมั่นใจ อำนาจ และสำคัญที่สุดคือความเชื่อ สไตล์ของ Aitoy นั้นมีรากฐานมาจากการ์ตูนคอมมิค และภาพประกอบนิยายแฟนตาซี ในงานช่วงแรกของเขา เขาได้ทดลองกับสไตล์ศิลปะที่เกิดจากงานโฆษณาชวนเชื่ออนาคตนิยมที่แพร่หลายในหมู่ผู้นำเผด็จการช่วงสงครามโลกครั้งที่ 2 อย่างรูปทรงเรขาคณิตในต้นศตวรรษที่ 20 ซึ่งดูเหมือนว่าทั้งสองอย่างนี้หล่อหลอมร่างมนุษย์ให้กลายเป็นสิ่งมีชีวิตแห่งอนาคตที่ยิ่งใหญ่และกักขังร่างกายของเราไว้ในเวลาเดียวกัน
“The Fictional Truth – ขยะอวกาศ งานแสดงเดี่ยวในครั้งนี้คือการขยายสไตล์นั้น แต่แทนที่จะเน้นไปที่สีที่มืดมนที่ทำให้เกิดความกลัว ผมอยากจะสร้างคอลเลคชันนี้ด้วยสีสันที่สดใสเพื่อที่จะปลุกเร้าให้จิตวิญญาณของมนุษย์ไม่มีวันสูญหายและแสดงให้เห็นว่าเราส่องแสงสว่างที่สุด เมื่อเราต้องต่อสู้กับพันธนาการจากรุ่นสู่รุ่น ไม่มีใครที่เกิดมาบริสุทธิ์ผุดผ่องและมนุษย์ก็ไม่ควรจะต้องบริสุทธิ์ขนาดนั้น ผลไม้ต้องห้ามนั้นเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของเราเสมอ ความมืดที่ขัดแย้งอยู่ร่วมกับแสงในตัวเรา เป็นความซับซ้อนที่สวยงามของมนุษย์”

Joyman Gallery invites the public to visit “The Fictional Truth,” a solo exhibition by Aitoy, aka Vasan Suwannaka. The show features a series of 30 paintings, sculptures, art prints, mix-media and video interactive art works that form a language for communication, questioning, discussion and exploration of different beliefs and the necessity of faith organizations. The artist compares the fabricated truths that entrap us to fragments left behind in space following human missions to explore the truth of the universe. Both beliefs and space objects are human inventions created to elevate human intelligence beyond the level of instinct and previously existing understanding. Once they have served their function, however, they become debris floating around endlessly.
“Drawing has always been my way to communicate: making friends, impressing girls, and eventually, putting food on the table,” Aitoy says in his artist’s note. “But more than a craft that I use to make a living, drawing is the tool I use to find a way of believing. Born and raised in a Buddhist family, educated in a Catholic school in a Muslim neighborhood, I grew up surrounded by very different belief systems that nevertheless share one commonality: their human-made origin. Each of these systems features constructed truths shaped by differences in culture and time within the eternal span of history.”
What, he asks, is the correct truth, when all truths are human inventions? As a young man, Aitoy’s style was influenced by the works of Frank Miller, the inking techniques deep-rooted in comic drawing, the creation of dimensions from bold juxtapositions of light, shadow, shapes, contrasts, exposures. The foundation of Miller’s style became the alphabet of the language he had always wanted to speak, his own language to express confidence, power and most importantly, belief. His style “has always been grounded in comics and fantasy illustrations.” In his debut collection, he experimented with the art/style that was birthed from the futuristic propaganda popular with World War II-era dictators and with the geometric shapes of the early 20th century, both of which, in Aitoy’s view, seem to mould the human body into a larger-than-life futuristic entity and imprison it at the same time.
“This solo show is the extension of that style,” he explains. “But instead of emphasizing darker and more oppressive colors that instill fear, I wanted to create a collection with vivid colors to awaken and immortalize the human spirit and illustrate how we shine the brightest when we fight against the generational shackles of our forefathers. No one is born pure and human beings are not supposed to be pure. The forbidden fruit has always been a part of us – the inner darkness coexisting and contrasting with our light, creating our beautiful human complexity.”
In this exhibition, Aitoy also collaborates with guest artist bariyard.io to create and show a sound remixing, interactive visual work titled Prayer (Player). The Fictional Truth is on view from 10 March to 28 April 2024 on the 1st floor of Joyman Gallery, Bangkok (Tuesday – Sunday from 11:00 to 18:00).
