การที่ร้านอาหารจีนที่ตั้งอยู่ในโรงแรมมีแขกเต็มทุกโต๊ะในช่วงค่ำวันธรรมดานั้นเป็นการการันตีอยู่ในตัวแล้วว่าที่นั่นจะต้องมีอะไรดี เหมือนเช่นที่เราได้สัมผัสที่ Yao Restaurant ชั้น 32 โรงแรม Bangkok Marriott Hotel The Surawongse ซึ่งในครั้งนี้เราได้ไปลิ้มลองมื้อค่ำแบบเต็มยศ หลังจากที่เมื่อเกือบปีมาแล้วเราได้ไปชิมล็อบสเตอร์แบบไม่เป็นทางการในช่วงเวลากลางวันมาครั้งหนึ่ง
ทันทีที่คุณออกจากลิฟท์ก็จะได้พบกับการตกแต่งที่มีทั้งความร่วมสมัยและความวินเทจในสัดส่วนที่ลงตัว โต๊ะที่นั่งทานข้าวทั่วไปหันออกไปทางด้านถนนสี่พระยาและเยาวราชซึ่งส่วนมากเป็นอาคารที่ไม่สูงนัก แต่อีกฝั่งหนึ่งของร้านจะเป็นห้องส่วนตัวขนาดน้อยใหญ่ต่างๆ ที่หันไปทางด้านสีลมจึงเป็นวิวตึกสูงแทน แต่ที่สำคัญจริงๆ แล้วก็คืออาหารต่างหากเพราะวิวย่อมเป็นแค่ปัจจัยรอง
Yao Restaurant เสิร์ฟอาหารจีนสไตล์กวางตุ้งภายใต้การดูแลของเชฟบรูซ ฮุย ถ้าคุณทานเนื้อวัว จานหนึ่งที่คุณควรสั่งเป็นอย่างยิ่งก็คือเนื้อวากิวกับเห็ดผัดซอสเอ็กซ์โอเพราะว่าสมาชิกในโต๊ะทุกคนเห็นด้วยตรงกันว่าดีงามมากๆ และถ้าคุณมากันเป็นกลุ่ม 3 คนขึ้นไปก็ขอให้สั่งเป็ดปักกิ่งของทางร้านมาลอง หนังเป็ดแล่แบบติดเนื้อนิดหน่อย เหยาะซอสฮอยซิน ใส่ไข่ปลาแซลมอนสักครึ่งช้อนชาก่อนม้วนแป้ง กัดแล้วเพลินตั้งแต่คำแรกจนถึงคำสุดท้าย ซุปเป็ดที่เขาเอาเนื้อเป็ดไปต้มกับบ๊วยดองและเต้าหู้ก็ออกมาน่าประทับใจด้วยเช่นกัน

For a Chinese restaurant in a high-rise hotel to boast a full house of diners on a weekday evening is already quite the testament to its quality. Yao Restaurant on the 32nd floor of Bangkok Marriott Hotel The Surawongse continues to impress us during our first full dinner experience there, after a lunchtime lobster sampling almost a year ago.
The restaurant seamlessly blends contemporary styling and vintage elegance. Regular tables look out to the Bangkok skyline in the direction of Si Phraya Road and Chinatown. On the other end of the restaurant, large and small private dining rooms offer more of the cityscape facing the high-rise buildings on the Silom Road side. Having said that, the view is only a bonus to the culinary delights we anticipated.
Yao Restaurant serves classical Cantonese cuisine under the lead of Chef Bruce Hui. If you are a beef person, do order the tantalizing Stir-Fried Wagyu Beef with Mushrooms in XO Sauce. For a group of at least three people, you should not miss the opportunity to try their Peking Duck. The crispy skin is satisfyingly succulent; with a dash of hoisin sauce and a half teaspoon of salmon roe, the experience is nothing short of divine. The soup made out of the duck meat with pickled Chinese plum and tofu is pleasing as well.
Yao Restaurant clinches our unreserved vote for a special occasion meal. It is family friendly, tourist friendly and not a bad choice at all for hosting business associates. Service is daily for lunch from 11:30 to 14:00 and for dinner from 18:00 to 22:00. Aside from the restaurant part of the brand, Yao Rooftop Bar one level above has differing hours of service from 17:00 to midnight.
