Chadwick Boseman

The actor was first widely known from his role as the baseball player Jackie Robinson in a biographical film titled 42. He became the king of 2010s cinema for the role T’Challa/Black Panther, appearing in several Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. Thanks to the superhero character, Boseman empowered the African-American community and inspired the world. He was listed on Time 100 in 2018. Despite his passing at the age of 43 in August, Boseman still has an upcoming posthumous film, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, from which he gained critical acclaim from the effort he has given to it.

Talented actress, model and singer Rivera entered to the industry at the young age of four. She became globally famous for the role of cheerleader role Santana Lopez in the hit series Glee. Rivera’s interpretation of the character realistically depicted the Latin-American way of life. Besides her two Grammy Award nominations, she stood up for the LGBTQ communities before she passed at the age of 33 from a drowning accident.

Before being globally seen in blockbusters like Life of Pi or Jurassic World, Irrfan struggled in Indian movie industry for years. He had his breakthrough with dramas like Haasil and The Namesake, which brought to him more opportunities from American studios. A journalist from The Guardian remembered the actor that his hardworking career was an enormously valuable bridge between Bollywood and Hollywood. Irrfan died at the age of 53 in April.

After quitting the 007 role, the actor appeared in other hit movies such as Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, The Rock and The Untouchables. The latter title led him to win Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Connery retired from acting in 2009 and peacefully passed this year at 90.

Kobe Bryant’s basketball legend began at the age of 18 when he was drafted to be Los Angeles Lakers’ shooting guard. During the two decades with the team, Bryant led Lakers to NBA champion on five occasions. He was the fourth all-time highest scorer and received multiple MVP accolades. Also, he contributed to the US national team’s winning of two gold medals at the Olympics Games. After his retirement, the player became the first professional athlete to have won the Oscars from his short animation, Dear Basketball. A helicopter crash caused the tragic passing of the 41-year-old Bryant and his daughter Gianna.

During 1960s and 70s, he was a member of groups like The Scholars, The New Christy Minstrels and The First Edition. Rogers became the king of country music as a solo singer with the song The Gambler, written by Don Schlitz. His other successful singles and duets include Island in the Stream, Lady and Lucille. Rogers passed at the age of 81.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Despite graduating with the highest scores from Columbia Law School, Ginsburg struggled in the legal career path at the beginning because of the general prejudice against women in the 1960s. Later, RBG stepped up to be a professor at Rutgers Law School, where she taught about law and women. It was for her great dedication and fight for gender equality that President Bill Clinton named Ginsburg as the second female Associate Justice of U.S. Supreme Court. After 27 years in the position, the iconic model of feminine rights passed at the age of 87.
Kenzo Takada

Before moving to Paris, Kenzo was one of the first men to have graduated from Bunka Fashion College in Tokyo. Combining the jungle aesthetic with his homeland culture, Kenzo launched his first collection which became an instant success under the brand Jungle Jap. Kenzo changed that name to Kenzo and launched new product lines. Although he sold the brand to the LVHM group and served as its creative director only until 1999, the fashion designer continued to actively support young designers and to propel the industry forward. He died at the age of 81 from the coronavirus.
Diego Maradona

The Golden Boy started to show his football talents at the age of eight. He began his football career with Argentinos Juniors when he was almost 16. After making Boca Juniors a champion in the Argentine Primera División, Maradona moved to Barcelona and Napoli football clubs with world’s record transfer fees at the time. His most remarkable service was to the Argentine national team, though. Using Hand of God, Maradona gained his team victory over England in a 1986 World Cup quarter-final match before eventually beating West Germany to the title. Despite several personal issues, Maradona was well-loved by supporters from all over the world until his death at the age of 60.
