ความงามที่เป็นเอกลักษณ์ของภาพพิมพ์แกะสลักโลหะโดยศิลปินที่ทำงานออกแบบและแกะสลักแม่พิมพ์ธนบัตรมาตลอดทั้งชีวิตการทำงาน

ภาพพิมพ์แกะสลักโลหะเป็นหนึ่งในเทคนิคภาพพิมพ์โลหะร่องลึกหรือที่มีชื่อในทางเทคนิคว่า “intaglio” ซึ่งต้องอาศัยทักษะเฉพาะตัวของศิลปินในการสร้างสรรค์ชิ้นงาน ประเทศไทยเรามีศิลปินที่ทำงานด้านนี้ในระดับที่มีความเชี่ยวชาญสูงเพียงไม่กี่ท่าน และคุณพินิตย์ พันธประวัติก็เป็นศิลปินอิสระท่านหนึ่งที่มีผลงานเป็นที่ยอมรับ
คุณพินิตย์เป็นชาวนราธิวาสผู้มีความมานะบากบั่นจนได้เข้ามาศึกษาต่อในกรุงเทพ หลังจากสำเร็จการศึกษาที่วิทยาลัยเพาะช่างก็ได้สอบเข้าทำงานด้านการออกแบบและแกะสลักแม่พิมพ์ที่โรงพิมพ์ธนบัตร ธนาคารแห่งประเทศไทย เมื่อ พ.ศ. 2522 และที่นี่เองที่คุณพินิตย์ได้สั่งสมประสบการณ์งานแกะสลักโลหะผ่านการสร้างงานแม่พิมพ์ธนบัตรมาอย่างยาวนานถึง 36 ปี จากนั้นคุณพินิตย์จึงสานความฝันหลังวัยเกษียณของตัวเอง ด้วยการเปิดตัวสู่การเป็นศิลปินอิสระอย่างเป็นทางการด้วยนิทรรศการภาพพิมพ์ “ใจหทัยทวยราษฎร์” ในปี พ.ศ. 2558 และสร้างสรรค์ผลงานศิลปะด้วยเทคนิคการพิมพ์แกะสลักโลหะเรื่อยมา
ด้วยความรักในงานแกะสลักโลหะตั้งแต่ครั้งยังทำงานที่ธนาคารแห่งประเทศไทย ซึ่งมีโอกาสได้ทำงานเกี่ยวกับราชวงศ์จักรีโดยเฉพาะพระบาทสมเด็จพระปรมินทรมหาภูมิพลอดุลยเดช มหิตลาธิเบศรรามาธิบดี จักรีนฤบดินทร สยามินทราธิราช บรมนาถบพิตร รัชกาลที่ 9 กอปรความรักความเทิดทูนและสำนึกในพระมหากรุณาธิคุณของพระมหากษัตริย์ในราชวงศ์จักรีทุกพระองค์ จึงเกิดเป็นแรงบันดาลใจผลงานนิทรรศการล่าสุดนี้ที่มีชื่อว่า “ใต้ร่มพระบารมีจักรีวงศ์” โดยประกอบไปด้วยภาพพิมพ์แกะสลักโลหะพระมหากษัตริย์ทั้ง 10 พระองค์แห่งราชวงศ์จักรีรวมถึงภาพพระบรมวงศานุวงศ์จำนวนทั้งหมด 40 ชิ้น
โดยใช้ทักษะกระบวนการแบบการสกัดผสมผสานกับการแกะสลัก ทั้งยังมีความพิเศษในการให้สีแต่ละชิ้นงานด้วยหมึกพิมพ์สีสันที่ช่วยเสริมให้เครื่องขัตติยราชอิสริยาภรณ์ เครื่องราชอิสริยาภรณ์ รวมทั้งเครื่องราชกกุธภัณฑ์ดูโดดเด่นสมจริง ซึ่งทั้งหมดนี้ต้องอาศัยทักษะและความชำนาญบวกความวิริยะอุตสาหะในการสรรสร้างเป็นอย่างมาก เพราะชิ้นงานล้วนแต่ต้องแกะสลักลงบนแม่พิมพ์ทองแดงอย่างบรรจงและประณีต โดยไม่สามารถให้เกิดความผิดพลาดขึ้นได้เลย แต่ละชิ้นงานนั้นใช้เวลาทำ 4-6 เดือนเป็นอย่างต่ำ และผลงานทั้งหมดนี้ใช้เวลาในการสร้างถึง 4 ปีเต็ม
นอกจากนี้คุณพินิตย์ยังต้องการเผยแพร่เทคนิคการแกะสลักโลหะนี้ให้ยังคงอยู่ คุณพินิตย์กล่าวในการให้สัมภาษณ์กับนิทรรศการว่า “การแกะสลักเป็นเทคนิคซึ่งใช้ทักษะสูง ถ้าใครที่จะมาทำเทคนิคนี้เพื่อการพาณิชย์มันไม่คุ้ม แต่เราทำเพราะความภาคภูมิใจที่ได้อนุรักษ์เทคนิคนี้ไว้ให้อยู่กับเรา สักวันหนึ่งสมมุติว่าหากมันสาบสูญไปจากโลกนี้ ถือว่าเป็นเรื่องที่น่าเสียดาย”

Thai artist Pinit Phantaprawat puts nearly four decades of banknote engraving experience to a subject close to his heart in life after retirement.

Intaglio is a highly specific printmaking technique where images are incised into a metallic surface. Few individuals in Thailand have mastered this form of art, among them Pinit Phantaprawat. A native of Narathiwas, Pinit worked so hard in school that he earned himself a place to study in Bangkok. Following his graduation from Poh-Chang Academy of Arts, Pinit successfully gained a work position as a banknote designer and engraver at the Treasury Department Paper Currency Printing House, Bank of Thailand, in 1979.
It was here that Pinit amassed 36 years of experience in intaglio work, crafting one after another mold for banknotes. His dream for life after retirement was to officially become an artist. That dream was realized in 2015 with an exhibition titled “The Engraving of My Heart”. He continued to create artistic work with the intaglio technique ever since.
Pinit’s his work back in the days with Bank of Thailand centered largely around the Chakri Dynasty, in particular, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej Rama IX. That, together with his reverence and gratitude for the kindness of all the kings of this dynasty, led him to develop this latest exhibition titled “Under the Auspices of the Chakri Dynasty”, featuring a total of 40 printmaking images of the 10 kings of the Chakri Dynasty and other members of the royal family.
To this end, Pinit had to employ all of his skills in etching, engraving and coloring in order to impart realism on each piece of order and decoration. Undoubtedly, a lot of patience went into this journey of specialized creation. No mistake could be tolerated as engraving was carefully done on the sheet of copper. Each piece of work required at least four to six months to finish, so the total project involved four full years of hard work.
“Engraving is a highly skilled technique. It is not commercially viable. We do it with the pride of preserving the technique for the next generations. It will be a great shame if one day it vanishes from the earth,” shared the artist in an interview for this exhibition.
