JKBoy หรือ เจตนิพัทธ์ เกษประดิษฐ์ ช่างภาพและนักผจญภัยชาวไทยชื่อดังที่มีผลงานภาพถ่ายเป็นที่ยอมรับจากเวทีระดับโลกมากมาย เขาคือผู้ที่ออกเดินทางแสวงหาความงดงามทางชาติพันธุ์และวัฒนธรรมอันหลากหลายที่หลบซ่อนตัวอยู่ในพื้นที่อันห่างไกลรอบโลก โดยเขาจะเข้าไปคลุกคลีและใช้เวลาอยู่ร่วมกับชนเผ่านั้นๆ เพื่อทำความเข้าใจถึงความเชื่อและวิถีชีวิตของพวกเขา และเพื่อให้ผู้คนท้องถิ่นเปิดใจและถ่ายทอดอารมณ์ออกมาได้อย่างเป็นธรรมชาติ ซึ่งทำให้สามารถสะท้อนเรื่องราวของกลุ่มชนชาติพันธุ์ที่มีความหลากหลายและแตกต่างทั้งทางด้านภาษา วัฒนธรรม และวิถีชีวิต ผ่านภาพถ่ายของเขาที่มีเทคนิคเฉพาะที่เรียกว่า “Environmental Portrait” ได้อย่างงดงาม น่าอัศจรรย์ และมีเอกลักษณ์เฉพาะตัว
เมื่อกลางปี ค.ศ. 2022 เขาเคยได้สร้างความประทับใจมาแล้วในการจัดแสดงนิทรรศการเดี่ยวในชื่อ “People of Their World” ที่บอกเล่าเรื่องราวของชนเผ่าพื้นเมืองหลากหลายทวีปตลอดระยะเวลา 7 ปีที่ผ่านมาของเขา และในปีนี้ เจตนิพันธ์ กลับมาพร้อมกับผลงาน “People of Their World: Tsam – The Dance of Gods” ที่จะนำพาเราไปพบกับศิลปะและมรดกทางวัฒนธรรมที่สูญหายไปนานของชาวมองโกเลีย โดยมีระบำหน้ากากจาม (Tsam) และอารามหลวงโบราณอายุกว่า 300 ปีเป็นแกนกลางของงานนิทรรศการในครั้งนี้
ความพิเศษของภาพระบำหน้ากากชุดนี้ คือ เป็นการถ่ายภาพที่ได้รับอนุญาตเป็นกรณีพิเศษ เนื่องจากปกติทางวัดไม่อนุญาตให้มีการถ่ายภาพหรือถ่ายทำสารคดีมาก่อน เพราะหน้ากากแต่ละหัวและชุดที่ใส่ล้วนเป็นของโบราณอันศักดิ์สิทธิ์ล้ำค่า ซึ่งจะเห็นได้ว่ามีรูประบำหน้ากากของที่นี่ออกมาสู่โลกภายนอกน้อยมาก
ระบำวัชระหรือระบำหน้ากาก (Tsam Mask Dance) ถือกำเนิดขึ้นในช่วงศตวรรษที่ 8 เป็นพิธีกรรมที่สำคัญที่สุดอย่างหนึ่งของศาสนาพุทธที่ได้รับสืบทอดมาจากจีนทิเบตเพื่อปราบและชำระสิ่งแวดล้อมภายนอก กำจัดโรคภัย ความทุกข์ยาก สงคราม ความอดอยาก ความยากลำบาก และแผ่ความเป็นสิริมงคล ซึ่งผู้ที่จะสวมหน้ากากเหล่านี้ได้จะมีเฉพาะพระลามะหนุ่มที่มีคุณสมบัติเหมาะสมเท่านั้น ภาพถ่ายพิธีกรรมในการบูชาหน้ากากยามที่ไม่ได้ใช้ในพิธีสำคัญภายในอาราม Amarbayasgalant หรืออารามแห่งความสงบสุขที่เป็นหนึ่งในสามศูนย์กลางสงฆ์ที่ใหญ่ที่สุดในมองโกเลียของนิกายเกลุกปาหรือนิกายหมวกเหลือง สร้างขึ้นระหว่างปี ค.ศ. 1727 และ 1737 และเป็นหนึ่งในอารามไม่กี่แห่งที่รอดพ้นจากการถูกทำลายระหว่างช่วงการกวาดล้างจากลัทธิคอมมิวนิสต์ของสตาลินในปี ค.ศ. 1937 รวมไปถึงการถ่ายทอดเรื่องราวของศิลปะการประดิษฐ์และการอนุรักษ์การทำหน้ากากของระบำหน้ากากนี้อีกด้วย

Professionally known as JKBoy, Thai photographer Jatenipat Ketpradit is internationally recognized for works that explore the beauty of diverse ethnicities and cultures hidden in remote areas of the world. He spends time living with tribes around the world in order to understand their beliefs and ways of life. By immersing himself in the culture and living in harmony with the ways of the people in a locality, he is able to make people open their minds and convey emotions naturally. His works reveal stories of peoples who have their own distinct languages, cultures and ways of life in a captivating, awe-inspiring and distinctly unique way using a technique called Environmental Portrait.
In mid-2022 Jatenipat created a sensation with his solo exhibition “People and Their World,” featuring stories of tribes across continents captured over the previous seven years. This year he returns with “People and Their World: Tsam – The Dance of Gods,” a photographic record of the artistic and cultural heritage of Mongolia. The exhibition revolves around Tsam mask dance and the royal monastery over 300 years old where the dance continues to be performed.
This series is very special as the photographer received special permission to capture the dance in a temple setting where photography and documentary filming are typically not allowed. The masks and costumes are sacred ancient objects of great value and their photographic records have rarely been shown to the public.
Originated in the 8th century in the Tibetan region, Tsam mask dance is one of the most significant rituals in Vajrayana Buddhism. It is performed to cleanse the external environment, eliminate disease, suffering, war, famine and hardships and spread auspiciousness. The masks are worn only by young lamas with the appropriate qualifications. The exhibition includes photos of rituals to venerate the masks at Amarbayasgalant or the Monastery of Peace, as well as the creation and restoration of masks used in Tsam mask dance. Built between 1727 and 1737, Amarbayasgalant is one of the three major monastic centers in Mongolia of the Gelugpa or Yellow Hat sect and one of the very few monasteries to have partly escaped destruction during the Stalinist Purge of 1937.
“People and Their World: Tsam – The Dance of Gods” is open to the public free of charge through December 5, 2023 at RCB Gallery 3, 2nd floor, River City Bangkok.
